Generous space for a generous heart
Joseph Baxendale bought the Hurley Estate from the Heathcote family in 1888 for a mere £150,000. Today, he might be expected to pay in the region of £80 million. In 1818 Joseph’s father, also Joseph Baxendale, took over the ailing local removals company Pickfords, rescuing it from almost certain bankruptcy and upon his death the company passed from father to son. The Baxendales were involved with the management of Pickfords, which are still in business today, until 1932. Our spacious Baxendale room comes with plenty of rustic touches and an antique writing desk – perfect for any business travellers.
